Let me say fist of all, generally speaking, the SPANISH are a welcoming nation. They love children, who are taken to restaurants etc as a matter of course. They also are very patient with foreigners who cannot speak their language and will encourage you rather than laugh at you as other nations may do. They are proud and trusting – in Spain, you pay for your drinks in a bar at the end , when you are finished, and not when you order them, as in the uk.
SPANISH COASTAL AREAS
There is so much to see and do in this lovely country, Castles, Windmills, old churches, Roman ruins, Scuba diving, carting, mountain walks, birdwatching, golf, sports etc.
Costa del la Luz, Costa Del Sol, Costa Tropical, Almeria, Costa Calida, South Costa Blanca, North Costa Blanca are the most popular areas for holidays, Investment and retirement.
COSTA DEL A LUZ is situated between the Costa del Sol and Portugal. Still relatively undiscovered by mainstream tourism, it retains its Spanish flavour and visitors would need to brush up on the lingo to get by here. Tarrifa is popular with the winds
Surfers due to the strong surfing conditions and prevailing winds. A nice place to retire to if you want to immerse in the Spanish culture, but learning the language is essential here. Both Jerez and Seville airports service this area, in addition to Porto airport over the border in Portugal.
Attractions
Costa del Sol is a well established region for British visitors and there is a large expatriate community spread throughout the province. Inland, you can still find traditional Spain, undiscovered by tourists and ideal to relocate to if you want to mix with the locals. Jerez is well known for its wine and sherry and the famous riding school of the lippenzer stallions. Malaga airport services the area from the UK.
COSTA TROPICAL has yet to make a name for itself in spite of its dramatic scenery and places of interest. Quite mountainous by nature, the hills and mountains afford lovely views of the countryside or coastline. The Alahambra Palace is a magnificent place to visit for the day, so to the Sierra Nevada Mountains, where you can enjoy skiing. Grenada city is a lovely place to spend the day and has its airport nearby with access to some regional UK airports.
COSTA ALMERIA has been titled “Spaghetti western country” due to some Client Eastwood western movies being shot here. Whilst not being a desert in any way, it is the hottest, driest region of Spain and inland can take on a lunar landscape appearance. This area is particularly good for people wishing to relocate wanting a large plot of land. Plot sizes here are typically 1000m2, when you travel ¾ - 1 hr inland.
COSTA CALIDA / COSTA BLANCA SOUTH areas are currently very popular with UK purchasers and is serviced by 2 Airports currently, San Javier ( Murcia) and Alicante. A new Airport is expected to be built near Corvera, a little inland in 2009, to handle the additional passenger volumes created. The Mar Menor in the Costa Calida area is particularly nice, being the largest inland lake in Europe and supposedly having therapeutic qualities. Spanish ladies are often seen putting on mud packs in the water. Most of this huge lake, which has a couple of small islands on it, is surrounded by a paseo or promenade, where the Spanish enjoy a walk before dinner. South Costa Blanca is more developed and has numerous golf courses. Torrevieja is the hub of the area and is a large town with lovely long beaches. This area is relatively flat with the mountain ranges being set far back from the coast.
NORTH COSTA BLANCA is quite different from South Costa Blanca, in that it is hilly and greener and as a result of the geography, developments tend to be smaller and inland ones offer lovely valley views. The beaches also tend to be more covey than the long straight ones in the south. There is a smaller ex pat community in the north, but some towns have large UK communities, such as Moraira – a small, pretty coastal town.
